The Top 10 lessons for Lifestyle Success you can Learn from a Child

Originally this post was going to be called “The 10 things you can learn from a child”. I started writing only to realize a short while later I had surpassed 25 and wasn’t nearly finished.

So in order for this post to maintain clarity and achieve maximum impact, I have narrowed it down to the top 10… For-now, however, a sweet surprise is in the works, so if you haven’t subscribed to my RSS feed yet, you may consider doing so at the end of this article. If you’re not familiar with RSS, don’t worry, there’s a box where you can put in your email address to receive the most recent articles.

Pull up a high-chair and let’s begin […]

A Child…

1. Is -Naturally Happy

Unless a child is hungry, overtired or needs to be changed they are pretty much in a state of constant bliss. What are they so happy about?! Or rather, what can we possibly be so miserable about?

The answer is one in the same, a child always sees what we started taking for granted. The regular every day mundane things we are surrounded by and all its beauty.

>STOP for a moment and appreciate what’s around you…

2. Has -No Fear

Fearless… Like a superhero.

Fear is something a child will not know until we adults scare it into them. True, we do it to protect them (or such is our intent) however, we also tend to pass along our fears.

> Pick one fear you have and face it today.

3. Always -Wants To Discover

A child is the ultimate scientist. They need to know how it works, when does it stop, how heavy it is, does it light up, what sound does it make, can it be their favorite toy? Through discovery there is always achievement. You’ve either achieved your desired outcome or, are now a step closer with the knowledge of what doesn’t work.

> What can you discover today that will make a change in your life?

4. Doesn’t Give Up

Have you ever, I mean ever seen a child after they walk up to you and ask for something then receive no for an answer say…. Ugh…. Ok?! I don’t think so!
How many times and ways can they come up with to ask the same thing until they wear you down? They don’t give up! It’s not in them. They are not wired that way!

> What have you given up on lately? Try again. Use the front or back door.

5. Needs Love

It is known a child cannot survive without love. As we grow older we toughen our skin with an attempt to ignore our innate need, the key ingredient for thriving let alone surviving as a living growing human being in the world we live in. We need love.

>Who needs your love, or who have you not let in to love you?

6. Tells It Like It Is

Have you ever asked a child what they thought of a new recipe you tried for dinner? That’s right, you got it, you’ll either get a thumbs up yumm, or you’ll wish you hadn’t asked, let alone just didn’t serve the regular mac and cheese.

> In times when a situation doesn’t go exactly the way you’d hoped, don’t see it for what it’s not and make it worse that it really is, just tell it like it is and move on.

7. Plays Hard

There is nothing more intense than a child at play. Trying to get them to put it down just for supper or in time for bed is quite an exhausting feat. They take play time quite seriously. It becomes extremely competitive and a way to mark their territory.

> Play hard when it’s time to play, and work won’t be such a daunting task.

8. Is -Always Active

Why is it when you think of doing an Energizer battery commercial the first thing that comes to mind is a child? They never quit! From the moment they awake until the 30 seconds it takes for them to fall asleep, they run, jump, shout, laugh, swing, create and never get tired.

> Become active, it’s not your age -it’s the story you let your mind tell you.

9. Uses -Their Imagination

A child can run faster than a speeding bullet. If they put on a cape they can fly. They can be alone in a room with nothing to do and create a new world around them. Their imagination has no limits or boundaries and will invent anything and everything.

> imagine something today, just a -what if and see where it leads you.

10. Has -Unconditional Love

I left this one for last because we have been conditioned over time that love, especially unconditional love is something that needs to be earned like respect but, let’s step back for a moment in time if you will. As a child you had unconditional love for a parent, a teacher, your neighbor, uncle Joey that was really your fathers bowling partner and so on, you get the picture. Even today years later, seeing them again is as if time stood still. Why is it then, that unconditional love for someone you are really close to, possibly in a relationship with or maybe a long time friend, is so far from being a reality?

> Make unconditional love a priority today with someone dear to you. No time frame, no limits, no CONDITIONS and see how it affects every little part of everything you do and the person you now become just because…

You Now Love Unconditionally.
